Today’s post is provided by guest blogger, Melanie Kissell, the brains (and humor) behind Solo Mompreneur. We met during the 30 Day Blog Challenge, and I was immediately drawn to her laser-like observations and quick wit. I think her take on business organization is right on target.

Distraction.
Interruption.
Derailment.
These are triplets that are cousins of mine. Check your genealogy. You may be related to them, too.
In a perfect world as a solo entrepreneur, keeping your business neatly organized, staying diligently on task and maintaining laser focus sounds great. It even looks good on paper, too!
But you and I don’t reside or function in a perfect world.
There’s only one predictable factor in the life of an independent business owner . . .
It’s unpredictable. You can count on that!
Auto repairs, illness, injury, care of an elderly relative, children, surgery and household mishaps (you know, like when the toilet won’t flush?) can easily distract, interrupt and derail you from business-building activities.
So what’s a solo entrepreneur to do when distraction, interruption and derailment have taken up residence in your guest bedroom, and they plan to stick around for an extended stay?
Don’t feed them and don’t have plush Egyptian cotton towels hanging in the bathroom. Don’t provide any laundry service and, if possible, cut off the ventilation to their room.
If that doesn’t work, tell them this . . .
You’re inviting the one relative they can’t stand to come and stay with you forever. And that, of course, would be . . .
Flexibility.
